York Automotive Scam???
Grand Blanc, Michigan... Beware! ----------------- Inovice Date: 1-26-10
Okay... So I hate to drag his name through the mud (Mike York), so I'll present my case and
leave it up to you (the reader) to decide the verdict. Sounds fair, right?
First things first... the bottom of the invoice clearly states: 1 Year 12,000 Mile Warranty Parts and Labor --
Technician - Michael York -- Certification # M222503
The Story: I have a cheap old car that I use to drive back and forth to school... a 1989
Chevy Corsica. I let my wife drive the nice van... ha ha ha. Anyway, two brake lines rubbing together
blew out at the same time, I guess because they were old and rusty of coarse... so I used 3 cans of break fluid to
drive it from Owen road and 23 in Fenton to York Automotive on the corner of Maple and Fenton roads, because it was
the closest place to Baker. So I dropped off the car and walked the last mile or so up to the school, because
I had class that night.
Total Bill: $489.09 -- A little steep I know, but at least the whole dang brake system
was brand new right??? Well, not exactly.
I bought rear shocks and planned to put them on myself, so I took a tire off and what did I see? Old,
rusted parts that I had been charged for... parts and labor... both sides. So I took pictures, photocopied my
reciept, and went to confront him. Exactly as I expected, he acted offended and denied the
whole thing, saying "That was 7 weeks ago... those ARE new parts... metal rusts that fast... I'll see you in
court!" Unquote.
Well, true it was 7 weeks later which is the issue. Can I get 10 years of rust on my brake
cylinders, brake shoes, and drums in 7 weeks? I don't think so. SO INSTEAD OF
WASTING MY TIME AND MONEY IN COURT, I decided to spread the word instead, eat the loss myself, and hope to spare
someone else the pain in the pocketbook.
So here is are the pictures...
The total price

Work that SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE!

Back side of OLD NASTY (rusted solid) wheel cylinder

Yes, he did put NEW SPRINGS in... hurray! Honestly, I can't say for sure about the
shoes. They could have gotten that dirty, and they look pretty thick, but again you can see the OLD wheel
cylinder from this side. Talk about cheap and lazy... not wanting the extra work of taking off the brake line
attached to the back of the wheel cylinder and possibly braking another line.

This is the driver's side. Upon inspection, I realized he REBUILT this wheel cylinder
because it was obviously leaking and defective. The right side has new components, but it's still the old
shell. And you can see the NICE NEW springs again.

Here is the drum... you be the judge. Is this 7 weeks old, or 7 years old?

Thanks for reading. Regardless of how much Mike York is guilty of, I would be VERY CAREFUL
if you take your business there, and expect to get less than half the job done for full price... remember I paid
nearly $500 bucks for 2 new brake lines that had nothing to do with the back of the car in the first
place!!!
P.S. The car still runs great. He did a great job rigging it. Thanks jerk!
If you have experianced anything similar to this, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE leave a comment... so that this
dude will be more exposed!!!
